GCSE Grade Boundary Calculator 2025

Turn raw marks into a 9 to 1 GCSE grade for AQA, Edexcel, and OCR. Uses the official 2024 grade boundaries as the closest public reference until 2025 boundaries are published in August.

How GCSE grades work

GCSE results in England use a 9 to 1 scale, where 9 is the highest. A grade 4 is the pass (standard pass), and a grade 5 is a strong pass. Each exam board (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, CCEA) sets its own grade boundaries per subject per year, based on how hard that specific paper was.

Our calculator uses the 2024 grade boundaries published by each board. Historical patterns are stable year-to-year within about 5 marks per grade, so this is a reliable estimate for 2025 results until the August 2025 boundaries are published.

Why this matters before results day

  • See if you are on track to hit your predicted grade while you still have time to revise.
  • Spot the difference between a 6 and a 7 — it is often just 4-6 marks. Worth one more past paper run.
  • Know what to target in resits. Grade boundaries shift a little each year but the gaps between grades are consistent.
